Recording consists of a presentation by Frank Proschan about his field work with the Kmhmu people of Vietnam and Laos followed by a discussion of the work and issues involved in producing a CD. Discussion of fieldwork comprises a slide show accompanied by musical selections of the following instruments: reed pipe, reed organ, rice stem flute, mouth flute, nose flute, tube zither, one-string fiddle, jew's harp, dav dav, rhythmic gongs, drums, and cymbals. Production topics include selection of material, editing problems and techniques, ethical and scholarly decisions while editing, intellectual property rights, and obtaining permission for commercial releases.
